Glen Cove Parade A Complete Success

The 2011 Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade had beautiful weather as the marchers went down Glen Street. The sidewalks were filled four to five deep in Downtown Glen Cove, cheering on Grand Marshal Andy Stafford and his Aides Jim Burke and Carol McTigue.

“I am so honored this day,” said Stafford. “I couldn’t imagine it any better.”

Three different counties and six different AOH divisions were represented, while the Nassau County Ladies were also out in full force.

After the parade Division 8 sponsored an after party at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall where Mayor Ralph Suozzi presented awards to the Grand Marshal and Aides.

John O’Connell To Run for District Six Director

Nassau County is proud to nominate County Jumior Past President John O’Connell to the position of District 6 Director for the New York State Board in 2011.

A Hibernian since 1997, John was a three time Division 8 President in Glen Cove and also served as County Recording Secretary before his term as President. For the past year and a half, John was named Publicity Chair for New York State.

We wish John good luck in his election.

Jim McCabe Receives His Life Membership

Division 8 celebrated Jim McCabe’s Life Membership with a dinner at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing. Among the 172 people in attendance were members of the State, County and the five other living Life Members from Nassau County.

Jim has been a member of the AOH for 57 years and this honor is very well deserved.On the night he received his Life Member Medallion, a citation from Congressman Peter King, another citation from Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi, a Life Member sash from Division 8 and also a various gifts from both the men’s and ladies’ divisions of Glen Cove.

Division 8 also honored their Division Life Members Ed Doohan, Tom Lilly, and Martin Mannion.

Junior Past President John O’Connell took these pictures of the parade in Glen Cove on Sunday, March 21st, 2010. The Glen Cove parade is the only Hibernian sponsored St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Nassau County.

Nassau County St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Next month, the AOH will be marching in a number of parades around Nassau County and in New York City. If you are a member in good standing, you are welcome to march with the county board on any of these occasions or with your division if it is marching as well. You can find these dates on our calendar or just check the dates below.

2010 Parades

March 7 – Bethpage 2 p.m.
March 7 – Garden City 1 p.m.
March 17 – New York City 11 a.m.
March 20 – Rockville Centre 12 p.m.
March 21 – Glen Cove 1 p.m.
